The digital revolution is irrevocably changing the way we work – to survive and thrive in this era of radical change, forward-thinking leaders need to look at people, processes and culture through a different lens. With this in mind, senior business leaders from 13 organizations attended TRACC Community Connect in Jakarta, Indonesia, where they explored the topic of Guided Operational Excellence in the New World of Work. Event highlights included practical insights from world-class industry speakers, a panel discussion on supply chain and operational excellence, and a networking session.

On 25 October 2019, delegates from Briktru, Binus University Business School, Danone Indonesia, Bayer Crop Science, Ceva Logistics Indonesia, Coca Cola Amatil Indonesia, Inti Karya Persada Tehnik and more came together at TRACC Community Connect – a best practice sharing event for TRACC users and other industry leaders ‒ to find out how global organizations are driving operational excellence in the new world of work.

Speaker presentations and the panel discussion centered on the following topics:

  • How to proactively prepare for Industry 4.0
  • Supply chain vs operational excellence
  • How integrative improvement drives competitive advantage
  • Short term results vs capability building
  • Taking a maturity-based approach to operational excellence

Paving the way for digital transformation

Dr Dino Petrarolo, Senior Vice President at Competitive Capabilities International, delivered the welcome address and gave attendees an insight into how TRACC is powering improvement at Coca-Cola bottlers and DuPont. He also discussed how operational excellence lays the foundation for a successful digital transformation and highlighted the evolving relationship between man and machine.  “Fundamental people engagement practices, such as teamwork, problem-solving, goal alignment, leadership, etc. are becoming even more important as technology becomes more sophisticated and abstract,” Dino concluded.

Dr Ahmad Syamil, Dean, Binus Business School, spoke on the topic of Operational Excellence: Building Capability vs Rapid Results. He looked at the correlation between improvement and innovation and shared how design thinking helps build innovation capability. He also looked at the lean start-up methodology and why continuous innovation is key to successful product development.

Tujuan Tarigan, Continuous Improvement Manager, Danone Indonesia, shared his experience of leading the operational excellence journey at Aqua Danone. He discussed the deployment and implementation of DaMaWay (the Danone Management Way), a continuous improvement initiative that focusses on improving processes and performance, and on empowering shop floor teams to drive continuous improvement.

The key takeaway from the event was, that, operational excellence is critical for a successful digital transformation, and that the relationship between people and technology must be expertly leveraged to sustain competitive advantage.
